New Gold suspends underground mining at New Afton, shares down gold copper NewGold
- Shares of gold and copper producer New Gold traded down 7.75% today after the company announced its decision to suspend underground mining activities at the New Afton mine in B.C., Canada.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the company has elected to suspend underground mining activities allowing its EOR appropriate time to review the findings,” New Gold noted in a press release.

Lundin Gold Reports Increased Gold Production and Strong Financial Performance in Q2 2023Lundin Gold has announced a 16% increase in gold production in Q2 2023 compared to the same period last year. The company generated $132 million in free cash flow, the highest quarterly amount to date. Net income for Q2 2023 was $63.1 million, and adjusted net earnings were $59.4 million. New Lasalle Elementary School Opens in New SudburyEducation Minister Stephen Lecce toured the new Lasalle Elementary School today. The school, located on the campus of Lasalle Secondary School, will open to students in September. The 47,480-square-foot, three-storey building features 19 classrooms, a gymnasium, a child care centre, an EarlyON centre, and CVR ventilation and technology. Despite construction delays and cost escalations, the Ministry of Education provided an additional $3.7 million to complete the project.
