New federal spending to temporarily boost the GST and cover dental care for children will have little impact on Canada’s economy, says the federal spending watchdog. Speaking to senators on Tuesday, Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Giroux provided some thoughts on the state of Canada’s economy and inflation ahead of his next fiscal update, which will be released next month.
When asked about the Liberal government’s $12.1 billion in new spending this year, Giroux said it will impact inflation somewhat, but not by much.
