The national corruption watchdog has already received 44 referrals in the two days since it was formally established as concerns grow the body could be used for political reprisals.

The highly-anticipated federal body was officially launched on Monday after formally being established on Saturday almost a year since it passed the parliament.

The Greens announced on Sunday it had referred embattled consulting giant PwC to the NACC over the firm’s leaking of confidential government tax policy details. But the immediate engagement with body by the Greens has raised concerns the NACC could quickly be politicised.Barnaby Joyce said the commission needed to be given space to make its own decisions“I'm not going to be like the greens, I will let the commission make its own decisions and if it believes it should investigate, well and good,” Mr Joyce said.

Senator Pocock was asked repeatedly by Sky News Australia’s Tom Connell if it would be best for referrals of other politicians to be made in private.
