Ontario is launching a new electricity pricing plan for night owls in Toronto.
According to officials, the plan would offer lower off-peak costs, but higher on-peak costs. The aim is to encourage more people to shift their electricity usage to nighttime periods, when demand is lower.On-peak : 24.0 cents per kWhThe optional ‘Ultra-Low Overnight’ plan will be available May 1 in areas served by Toronto Hydro, as well as London Hydro, Centre Wellington Hydro, Hearst Power, Renfrew Hydro, Wasaga Distribution and Sioux Lookout Hydro.
Durham Region is not covered as of yet. However, officials say all local distribution companies in Ontario will be offering the new pricing plan by November 1.
