Métis Nation of Ontario and Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy will use guided walking and paddling tours to teach Métis ties to the Sault and the St. Marys River
The Métis Nation of Ontario and Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy have partnered to launch Métis Tours, a new regional tourism project intended to teach people about the Métis connection to Sault Ste. Marie and the St. Marys River through guided walking and paddling tours. Sault Ste. Marie, ON - The Huron-Superior Regional Community of the Métis Nation of Ontario is pleased to announce a new regional tourism project in partnership with Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy .
The tours will begin at the Sault Ste. Marie Métis Centre at 136 John Street. A Métis interpretive guide will lead the tours, trained by the Interpretive Guide Association. Walking tours connect historic and contemporary points of interest between the Centre and the St. Marys River. Visitors embarking on a walking/paddling tour will have the opportunity to board the magnificent Big Canoe at Parks Canada, allowing them to traverse the scenic St. Marys River. This immersive experience will not only offer insights into the Métis River Lots but also provide a glimpse into the vibrant community life centered around fishing at the rapids.“We began this discussion with LSWC five years ago, and over time have built this partnership.
