“So that we can have more accurate numbers to get the right services to the right people,” Forchuk says.
“Canada has been the only industrialized nation in the world that does not have housing and homelessness at the federal level,” says Dr. Forchuk. Current federal numbers suggest there are 235,000 people experiencing homelessness across Canada over the course of an entire year. “They were more likely to get COVID, 20 times more likely to be hospitalized, more likely to end up in the ICU, more likely to be dead in 21 days,” she says.
