From left, Samantha Nanson, Jeffrey Rohrback, Belisca Rohrback and Billy Rohrback stand out one of JK&B Shuttle Service's vehicles in Whitney Pier. IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POST - IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY — The stories Billy Rohrback and his family have heard about international students who attend Cape Breton University but because of the housing shortage situation often have to use a shuttle service to get to classes.
JK&B’s Shuttle Service — the initials come from Billy Rohrback’s children Jeffrey, Kyle and Belisca — started up the Whitney Pier-based business in November 2022, initially as a way for Billy to leave something memorable for his kids. Demand for JK&B has grown considerably in the past several months, including reaching out the international student community via social media.Nanson said on several occasions taking international students as passengers, she’s also heard stories about how little information these students receive arriving in Nova Scotia for the first time in their lives.
While Cape Breton offers numerous shuttle services, the Rohrbacks point out that their service differs in that it operates seven days a week. But Nanson points out that among the services, “we’re not all competing against one another. Companies like Island Shuttle and Cape Breton Shuttle have been very friendly, and we’re all in communication with one another.”
