For the first time, the benefit will be available to low-income Canadians in advance
Eligible Canadians will start getting some extra cash Friday with the first of three advance payments of the 2023 Canada Workers Benefit going out to more than four million workers.
Instead of waiting until next year when they’ve filed their 2023 tax return, recipients can expect to get up to 50 per cent of the benefit in their pockets sooner, with the first advance payment coming July 28. “The Canada Workers Benefit tops-up the income of up to 4.2 million hardworking Canadians — because no one working full-time should be struggling to put food on the table or to pay their rent,” Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said Thursday in a statement about the enhanced program.
