A public hearing for a rezoning application affecting a proposed 179-unit residential development in the Minnow Lake neighbourhood will take place at 1 p.m. on Oct. 3
Minnow Lake-area residents aren’t impressed by a 179-unit residential development proposed for construction off of Estelle Street, with hundreds of people opposing the project.
Leduc had requested the matter be deferred later, so the city council elected on Oct. 24 would deal with it, but the applicant’s agent, Kevin Jarus of Tulloch Engineering, said delaying it further would make the likelihood of construction taking place next year “minimal at best.” “Please take into consideration that a proposal of this magnitude will surely take a little more than a year to build,” he wrote. “The constant pounding of my home and that of our entire neighbourhood will continue.”
Alongside these and several other letters sent to the committee is a petition with almost 300 signatures of people opposing the development. “The area will benefit from the new sidewalk recommended to be built along the west side of Estelle Road from Bancroft Drive to Rheal Street. The apartment and row dwelling units will assist the City in meeting the current and future demand for these types of units in proximity to transit, particularly with an aging population.”
