Negros Occidental Empowers Women Farmers Through Marketing Grants

The provincial government of Negros Occidental is supporting women farmers by providing them with capital to enhance their agricultural product marketing efforts. Two farmer associations received PHP250,000 each in February to strengthen their marketing capabilities and entrepreneurial skills. The program aims to empower women farmers by improving access to resources and enhancing their ability to market their products.

Negros Occidental 's provincial government is actively supporting women farmers by providing them with capital to enhance their agricultural product marketing efforts. Data released by the provincial government on Thursday revealed that in February, two farmer associations received financial aid totaling PHP250,000 each under the Farmers Entrepreneurship Program (FEP). This program is a cornerstone initiative of the province's Gender and Development (GAD) Program.

Dina Genzola, the Officer-in-Charge Provincial Agriculturist, stated in a press release, 'We are providing this financial grant to the associations to assist them in bolstering their capital and business ventures.'The AMIA Village Organic Farmers Association (AVOFA), situated in Barangay San Isidro, Pontevedra town, is implementing a project entitled 'Agri-Products Consolidation and Marketing Enterprise.' AVOFA comprises 81 members, with 62 percent being women. The Tampalon Rainfed Upland Farmers Association of Kabankalan City, on the other hand, is engaged in the buying of palay (unhusked rice) and its subsequent retail sale. Out of its 393 members, 65 percent are women, operating from Purok Bougainvilla in Barangay Tampalon. The FEP, executed by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), strives to empower Negrense farmers, particularly women, by strengthening their entrepreneurial capabilities, improving their access to resources, and enhancing their ability to market agricultural products for increased profitability.
