The Ontario NDP used its time during the March 1 question period to push budget proposals they say would “build stronger, more caring communities in Northern Ontario” and they called on these proposals to be included in the upcoming Ontario budget, set to be tabled March 23.
“New Democrats understand that we are living in uncertain times and that the people of Ontario depend on us to provide the financial support and resources needed to create stronger communities,” Sudbury MPP Jamie West said in a news release. “Pre-budget consultations have made it even clearer that many Northern Ontarians are finding it impossible to make ends meet, and to access mental healthcare due to a persistent shortage in healthcare workers; limiting care for thousands of people.
“We urgently need increased investments to remove these obstacles only Northern Ontarians are forced to overcome. Northerners deserve a government that gets us, our values, our families, and our economies.” The NDP said its proposals are crafted from consultations in communities across the province earlier this year, and include:
