The broadband network operator has informed staff this afternoon that it will cut up to 500 jobs from its workforce.

However, the company could not immediately say how many positions were affected. Sources indicated it could affect up to 500 workers, some 10.7 per cent of NBN Co’s total workforce.

It is unclear which parts of the workforce will be most affected, but the NBN has been operationally complete with the broad majority of the construction work finished since 2020. Most field work on the network now comprises regular maintenance and upgrades like connecting fibre directly to homes.at its North Sydney head office to landlord Dexus, citing a rise in hybrid-work. This represented about a third of its floor space at the building.
