PETALING JAYA: National women’s hockey player Hanis Nadiah Onn has been suspended indefinitely from representing the country in international competitions, including the Cambodia SEA Games in May, due to a recent racist remark about the AR Rahman concert at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil last month.

Youth and Sports Ministry wants probe into alleged racist remarks by national hockey player

The Youth and Sports Ministry, in a statement Thursday , said the inquiry committee jointly chaired by National Sports Council director general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail and Malaysian Hockey Confederation decided that Hanis was guilty of making a comment that focused on a particular race.“The inquiry committee has come to a conclusion that MHC must not consider Hanis for any international assignments including the Cambodia SEA Games,” read the statement.

The Kluang-born player had openly apologised on her social media account on Jan 29 over her comments. The inquiry committee had interviewed Hanis and the national women’s coach Mohd Nasihin Nubli where the player had admitted making the comment on her social media account and said she regretted doing so.
