Shadow housing minister Michael Sukkar has slammed National Cabinet’s new housing target, labelling it a “complete fizzer” that won’t help Aussies battling rising rents and skyrocketing mortgage repayments.

Anthony Albanese unveiled what he labelled as"the most significant reforms in a generation" to tackle the nation’s housing shortage on Wednesday -pledging $3 billion in federal funding.

The leaders struck an agreement on increasing the target for the National Housing Accord to build 1.2 million new well located homes over five years from 1 July 202. Mr Sukkar told Sky News Australia’s Peta Credlin on Wednesday evening there was “no way that they will meet any of these targets.”“There was nothing in what the Prime Minister spoke about today that will help people struggling with rising rent.

Mr Sukkar said Australia’s housing crisis is only going to “get worse not better” if the Labor Government was intent on bringing in 1.5 million migrants over that time period like the Albanese government's budget handed down in May has forecast.
