A 14-year-old Nanaimo boy is being hailed a hero, after defending his family from an armed thief in their corner store.

The 14-year-old is being hailed as a hero after successfully disarming a would-be thief, who armed with a knife tried to hold up his family’s convenience store. The teen recalls watching the man enter their store from the back-room where he can watch the store from a CCTV system. Security cameras captured it unfold, when a man walked into the store with a ski-mask hiding his face, just before 9 p.m., Wednesday.With his baby nephew laying just steps away behind the till, Currie knew he had to stay calm.“Jake stepped back, grabbed the bat and said: What?!” recalled Marcel Trudeau, Jacob’s step-father.
