Victim might have been lying on bus bench when he was attacked

A 27-year-old man is in stable condition hospital and a 51-year-old woman is in custody after the man was stabbed several time in his head Sunday morning.

Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said police received a report about the stabbing at 9:30 a.m. He said officers arrived quickly and performed first-aid before turning things over to ambulance paramedics.It is believed the man had been sleeping or lying down on a bus bench near Port Place Mall when the stabbing happened, O’Brien said.

Police located the man a short distance away from that spot, and the suspect was also nearby, he said. The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault but no formal charges have been laid. A knife was located.“We haven’t been able to corroborate yet on what transpired which led to the stabbing,” he said. “There’s some ideas out there but we haven’t been able to pin them down.”
