KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has sent a petition to the United Nations to file a case with the Human Rights Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, seeking a release or a retrial of the SRC International case, says his lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

The petition, which was sent Thursday afternoon to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention , stated that the dismissal of the former premier's appeal at the Federal Court on Aug 23 last year was"unjust, flawed and violated his basic human rights and the Federal Constitution of Malaysia”.

Shafee said the judges had dismissed the request for an adjournment despite his client changing lawyers and that the sentencing was a"rushed justice".
