Elghawaby apologized earlier this month for an opinion piece in the Ottawa Citizen she co-wrote in 2019, which said that a “majority of Quebecers appear to be swayed not by the rule of law, but by anti-Muslim sentiment” in response to a poll that indicated 88 per cent of Quebecers who held negative views of Islam supported Bill 21.

“It is the only law in the entire Western Hemisphere that actually says there are certain jobs you can’t have no matter how smart you are, based entirely on your faith,” Nenshi said. “And I have been shocked at the silence of our political class in terms of dealing with this.”Article content Nenshi added that while there is a lot of focus on radicalization of young Muslim men, there is not enough emphasis being put on cracking down on so-called domestic terrorism.
