The Northwest Territories RCMP stated in a news release Sunday that they’ve become aware of a text message scam purporting to connect wildfire evacuees to relief funds.
The release included a photo of a sample text that the scammer might send.
The RCMP added that clicking on links in text messages from unknown sources could result in malicious software being downloaded onto your phone, or lead you to websites designed to trick you into revealing your personal information. More than 2.9 million hectares have been affected by wildfires thus far, and several regions are under heat warnings caused by nearby fires.financial support for evacuees.
