JOHN'S, N.L. — Progressive Conservative leadership candidate and Stephenville-Port au Port MHA Tony Wakeham is pushing for a debate in the House of Assembly about the potential Bay du Nord project in Newfoundland and Labrador.
He said that offshore development is not just about royalties and revenues but also about local jobs — both direct and spinoff jobs. He noted that for every person directly employed in oil and gas production, an additional nine indirect jobs are created, which he said can be a game-changer for the local economy.
“Our province has more than enough workers with the right skills and experience to get the work done properly, right here at home, as we’ve proven time and again," said Wakeham.
