ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2024 budget is putting $50 million over five years into a municipal infrastructure upgrade program.
The Municipal Capital Works program will be used to support 70 municipal infrastructure projects worth around $60 million in 2024-25. The projects are cost-shared between provincial and municipal governments, with the provincial portion amounting to $47 million. Municipalities, local service districts and Inuit Community Governments will be eligible for funding to make the upgrades.
The budget also provides $31 million in provincial support for the Multi-Year Capital Works funding program in 2024-25.The program supports larger municipalities capable of multi-year commitments, focusing on water and sewer systems, paving, road construction, municipal buildings and recreational facilities.
