The son of Myanmar's detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi says she is being refused urgent medical care despite her ill health.

It's understood Ms Suu Kyi has been returned to prison after a period under house arrestThe country's exiled National Unity Government has urged the international community to pressure the junta

The 78-year-old has been detained since February 2021 when she was ousted in a military coup and charged with a number of offences including election fraud and corruption which many see as trumped up.Her son Kim Aris told the ABC he had grave fears for his mother's health. "As far as I'm aware, she is unable to eat due to gum disease and potential problems with her wisdom teeth," he said.

"Given her age, this together with vomiting and dizziness gives reason for serious concerns about her overall ill health and her treatment."A request for urgent medical attention has been put in by the prison authorities themselves, I believe that that has been denied further up the chain."
