I suggested some other options , but I feel my boundaries are getting pushed with both parties repeatedly bringing up the issue. I don’t know what to do. How do we find middle ground? As one of your son’s parents, you have to be comfortable with where he sleeps. Your partner and their mother have a right to their feelings about it, but I don’t think they should be pressuring you to agree when you’re uncertain.
I think the middle ground here is that you’re not saying “never” ; you’re saying “not yet.” If I were you, I’d tell them that you can’t give them an exact timeline, but if and when youfeel the time is right for a grandparent sleepover 2.5 hours away from you, you’ll let them know. In the meantime, reiterate that you’re happy to have your in-laws visit, or you can visit them. What they should care about is that they get time with their grandchild, not whether or when he sleeps at their house.
