The two officers who were executed on a remote Queensland property have been identified, as the state's police union president revealed the horrific moment they were set upon by at least two heavily armed men dressed in camouflage.

Matthew Arnold, 29, and Rachel McCrow, 26, along with two colleagues were sent to a property in Wieambilla, about four hours north-west of Brisbane, on Monday about 4:30pm in relation to a New South Wales missing person's case.

Queensland Police Union President Ian Leavers revealed the two constables had"jumped the fence" to gain access before being met with a"hail of bullets". Mr Leavers then pointed to the"lack of compassion" from the gunmen, who then lit the shrub on fire to"smoke her out". A brave local sergeant responded and rallied a team of 15 police to go in under heavy fire to rescue the woman hiding in the bush and retreating the bodies of the two murdered colleagues.A neighbour who was also on the property at the time was killed.

An emergency declaration was made at 6:10pm on Monday under the Public Safety Preservations Act, which encompassed the area of Chinchilla and nearby roads.
