Indigenous women and girls have been disappearing and showing up murdered across the American west for generations.
In Montana, they found Selena Not Afraid’s frozen body stuck to the ground after she disappeared on Jan. 1, 2020. Southern Montana has one of the highest rates for murders and disappearances of Indigenous women in America.Selena vanished after the car she was in broke down and pulled into a highway rest stop somewhere between Billings and Hardin, Mont..She left the others to try and make her way on foot. The others eventually got the car started, leaving Selena and another person behind.
“Killers get away with it here,” Horn said, adding the families of victims face countless roadblocks. “We all banded together after Selena.”
