Speed signs altered to read 'No' have been spotted in SA, sparking safety concerns and a police investigation.
Multiple speed signs have been defaced in regional South Australia to read "No" as early voting for the Voice to Parliament gets underway.One mayor said the vandalism created a "huge safety concern"About a dozen speed signs along the Flinders Highway outside of Port Lincoln were found vandalised with black tape today.
Motorists reported similar acts having occurred along the Port Wakefield Highway, Barrier Highway in Burra and Worlds End Highway in Robertson."Defacing road infrastructure is a criminal offence which carries a maximum penalty of $5,000 or one year imprisonment," a spokesperson told the ABC in a statement.
The vandalism of signs has not been isolated to SA — 3AW Melbourne reported last Thursday that a sign had been defaced outside the city. District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula Mayor Jo-Ann Quigley described the vandalism as "really disappointing"."Having visitors coming to the Peninsula for the first time, we do know that whilst the state limit is 100, some roads are 110.
