In July, four health care workers were terminated from the health centre without cause, leaving what several described as dangerous gaps in patient coverage in the centre’s clinic. Several workers — all of whom asked not to be identified for fear of losing their jobs — said some patients were advised to seek care at a walk-in clinic or emergency department because the clinic was not able to meet their needs.
The city, which is providing more than $1.5 million to Pinecrest-Queensway in 2022, is investigating after receiving a complaint about the management of its city-funded community housing programs. City councillor Theresa Kavanagh recently told the centre’s board that employees and members of the community have approached her with concerns about the centre.Current and former workers have alleged that a climate of harassment and bullying throughout the organization has caused some employees to quit. Many say they were afraid to speak out, fearing they would lose their jobs.Article content
