PORT DICKSON: A 25-year-old man charged with crashing his motorcycle into a Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officer at a roadblock has been fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate's Court after he pleaded guilty on Thursday (Sept 21).
Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani also ordered Nor Khairul Azwa Azizi, a security guard, to serve three months in jail if he could not pay the fine.
Nor Khairul was charged with deliberately crashing into Mohd Nurhakim Mohd Razif at 11am on Sept 17 at KM28 of the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway. Under Section 186 of the Penal Code, he was charged with obstructing a government servant from discharging his duties.Offenders can be jailed for up to two years or fined up to RM10,000 or both upon conviction.
Nor Khairul, who was unrepresented, then appealed for a minimal fine as he had to provide for his son and pregnant wife.Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Izzaty Mohd Zainal then urged the court to impose a punishment commensurate with the crime and to deter others from obstructing government servants carrying out their duties.According to media reports, the JPJ had mounted a roadblock along the stretch when the accused crashed into Mohd Nurhakim.
JPJ also said Nor Khairul had been blacklisted for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987, including not having a valid licence since 2012 and riding without insurance coverage.
