Paramedics were called to the Wonthaggi Motocross Track shortly before 11am, following reports a man in his 20s had suffered head injuries after coming off a jump. Victoria Police said the man was treated at the scene by on-site medical teams and ambulance crews, but could not be revived.The South Gippsland track was hosting the Penrite ProMX Championship, which was described on event pages as the nation's premier motocross championship.

The schedule was set to include practice, qualifying and racing on Sunday as part of the first round of the championship.
