Four Australian surfers who were rescued after going missing for two days in waters off the Indonesian coast have spoken out for the first time since the miraculous ordeal.
The group had travelled to Indonesia for a 30th birthday celebration with eight others, but disappeared 150km off the west coast of Sumatra en route to an exclusive surf resort on Pinang Island in Aceh on Monday.
Extraordinary footage captured the moment rescue teams found three of the four missing people floating in open waters. Picture: Instagram / Ben CraddockThe 29-year-old had branched away from his friends when he set off alone on his surfboard to find help from an island, which he now reveals was an extremely difficult ordeal.“I spent the night by myself trying to paddle to islands but coastal drifts don’t allow you to get close to land when you’re that fatigued.
After several conflicting reports surrounding his rescue, it was finally confirmed on Tuesday afternoon local fishermen and Australian expat Grant Richardson found him adrift on his surfboard, alive and well.
