MORE teachers are to be recruited to meet teaching needs in six core subjects, says Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying.

She said the ministry is aware that there is a shortage and had recruited 22,327 teachers through the one-off and subject cluster methods from 2021 to January this year.“We will recruit teachers from outside universities,” she said in reply to a question from Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman .

Ahmad Tarmizi wanted to know which core subjects did not have enough teachers and the government’s plan to hire new teachers, especially in highly populated areas. The six core subjects are Bahasa Melayu, English, Islamic Studies, Design and Technology, Visual Arts Education and History.To a question from Vivian Wong Shir Yee , Lim said graduates who failed the Education Service Commission interview could reapply six months after the results were made known.
