KUALA LUMPUR: More people can fly home for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday after an additional 527 flights were approved for this festive season.
The extra flights approved is 43% higher compared to the same festive period last year, announced the Transport Ministry.It said the ministry had been encouraging airlines to offer reasonably priced flight tickets since early March.
In view of this, the Malaysian Aviation Commission has approved all additional capacity requests by airlines in offering fixed fares to key destinations within Malaysia, said the statement. However, the fixed-price tickets were sold at a rapid pace and the normal-fare flights also saw a high take-up rate that led to higher prices for the remaining tickets, the statement said.“This had prompted the ministry and Mavcom to undertake another round of intervention,” it added.
