Robert Card remains on the run from police two days after he is alleged to have killed 18 people and injured 13 others during a rampage in the US state of Maine.

Police revealed Card, 40, purchased the gun used in the mass shooting just over a week after he was hospitalised and ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation in July.

Authorities received a second report at 7:08pm with multiple 911 calls about a shooter at a restaurant, with officers on the scene by 7:10pm.
