Canadian police have shared more details about the tragic passing of Australian woman Julia-Mary Lane who was found dead after going missing on a hike in the wilderness.

A few days before she went missing, Ms Lane posted in a local community group on social media asking if she could join any hikes in the area. "I haven't seen my young Australian housemate, JM, since Saturday afternoon, and I'm wondering if anyone ran across her while hiking?" Ms Hamilton wrote on Facebook at the time.
