A nice catch by Justin Hardy down the sideline was good for 37 yards and gave Ottawa the ball on Montreal’s soon after that. It set up a 37-yard field goal by Ward.
Maltos, a former Redblack, kicked a 20-yard field goal to make it 9-3. Redblacks running back Devonte Williams then had the ball stripped out of his hands and the Alouettes recovered in Ottawa territory. Add an objectionable conduct penalty to Redblacks’ receiver Jaelon Acklin and the Alouettes had the ball on their opponent’s 33. A pass interference penalty on Josh Valentine-Turner gave Montreal the ball on the 23, and a Maltos field goal made it 9-6.
Backed up to its six-yard line with a bit less than two minutes left in the first half, Redblacks’ Richie Leone punted from his end zone and Montreal started a last-minute drive on Ottawa’s 46. A Ryan Saddler interception was wiped out when the CFL Command Centre ruled the ball had touched the turf before he secured possession.
The Redblacks marched the ball deep into the Alouettes’ end, but QB Tyrie Adams fumbled and lost the ball at the 13-yard line. On Ottawa’s next drive, Adams found Daniel Oladejo, selected out of the University of Ottawa in the CFL draft earlier this month, alone in the end-zone for a nine-yard touchdown pass. The convert was missed.
