Mixed reaction from tourism players on new Perak hotel law FMTNews
The Perak Hotel Enactment 2023, passed last month, has expanded the definition of “hotels” to include boarding houses, chalets, rest houses, tents and houseboats, and requires them to be licenced to operate.
Leong said the law which seeks to make licences mandatory for hotels and homestays was commendable, but asked how the authorities would enforce it against those who refuse to comply. Leong, however, advised against the introduction of a similar law at federal level, saying that it would burden operators with unnecessary red tape.
