WE stand at a critical juncture in our collective fight against misinformation and disinformation, a challenge recognized by the World Economic Forum in their Global Risks Report 2025, the academia, government, the private sector and various stakeholders.
The challenge is exacerbating the very issues that are at the heart of societal discussions: disaster preparedness, climate change and resilience. Misinformation and disinformation rank fourth in the current global risk landscape. However, projections indicate that within the next two years , they could become the foremost global risk in terms of severity. They have real-world implications that can affect lives, livelihoods and our planet's future.
-based Development Gateway, an IREX Venture, we discussed how to address the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation. Following are a few recommendations:Instituting transparency campaigns. Transparency is crucial in building trust and credibility within communities. Launching campaigns that promote the accurate dissemination of information can educate the public on how to identify reliable sources.
