'Smith is the right leader for Alberta, and has a conservative agenda the province still craves'
NDP Premier Rachel Notley’s one-term interlude was initially viewed as a momentary lapse of reason by the electorate. Albertans desired political change, and did it in the most extreme manner possible. Four years of socialist policies was more than enough for Albertans to bear, however, and they elected Jason Kenney and the UCP in 2019. Whenin 2022 due to poor stick-handling during the pandemic, the party faithful turned to Smith.
New immigrants from different countries began to move to Calgary and Edmonton. Eastern Canadians followed a similar path to those cities, as well as economic boom towns like Fort McMurray. Their desire to live in prosperous Alberta was high, but the right-leaning philosophy and historical independent streak was not part of their political DNA.Article content
