Taijikeimik would be the fifth federally funded health initiative to improve care for Indigenous people in Canada, alongside projects in Quebec, Ontario, and two in Manitoba. Chief Andrea Paul of Pictou Landing First Nation, who will also act as the lead Chief for health, echoed this hope while addressing the signings' attendees.
"When Mi'kmaq culture, values, and Two-Eyed Seeing approach are integrated into the health system, it will improve services and programs in our communities," said Paul."It will also create a more equitable, safe, and sustainable provincial health system, and that will benefit all Nova Scotians."Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu signing the memorandum.
"That's a reality that Indigenous people across the country share. When they need it the most, the health-care system hasn't been there for them. In fact, it has been not just not there for them – it's been exclusive, it's been frightening, it's been harmful. The end result is we lose people that we love because they are either too frightened to access health-care, or have been discriminated against and have not been getting quality care.
