Blake Eastman saw an opportunity and accurately picked his spot to send the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals to a thrilling series-clinching victory over the Amherst Ramblers on April 12.
Before 2,175 fans at a raucous Amherst Stadium, including a large contingent of Caps’ supporters, the 20-year-old Eastman picked up a pass inside Summerside’s blue-line early in overtime. The six-foot-four, 200-pound right-winger gained speed carrying the puck down the right side into the Amherst zone, and made no mistake beating Ramblers goaltender Lyam Leblanc with a hard high on the stick side to set off an on-ice celebration that ended up back behind the Caps’ goal-line.

“Simmer was excellent,” said McGuigan. “ had to make some saves early that gave us a chance to stay in the game.The Ramblers were 1-for-2 on the power play while the Caps went 0-for-2 with the man advantage as referees Stephen Starzomski and Mark Hulshof assessed several off-setting minor penalties. “I thought our first period wasn’t our best,” said McGuigan. “I didn’t think we were generating much in the first period. I didn’t think we were tracking pucks back and I didn’t like our game after the first.
