OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David is hoping that the Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila will peak soon and start subsiding, as the central region saw a decrease in growth rate and reproduction number in the previous week.

In an update shared on Twitter on Wednesday, August 3, David noted that the Covid-19 growth rate in Metro Manila went down to 14 percent on August 2, from 21 percent on July 26.

While the seven-day average infections increased to 1,209 cases per day this week, from 1,057 cases per day last week, the increase in cases may have slowed down as manifested by the lower growth rate. Likewise, Metro Manila’s Covid reproduction number—or the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual number—was slightly down to 1.24 from 1.33.He also noted that the healthcare utilization in Metro Manila remained low, although it has increased from 32 percent to 38 percent.
