A feminist professor at the University of Melbourne has spoken out after facing months of attacks by trans' rights activists.

Lawford-Smith has lodged a formal complaint against the University of Melbourne arguing the institution has failed to protect her safety in the workplace and bullied her for her views.

About 170 academics at the university signed an open letter accusing her of promoting negative stereotypes about trans people. “Some of these posters are extremely targeted: they name me, they call me a fascist and a bigot and they put my students in a very difficult position,” she told Panahi. Lawford-Smith has faced criticism from within the university’s faculty for her views, which she suspects “emboldened” the anonymous student activists.
