“Every time we’d go out, I was the guy in the crew that would make sure everybody got home safe,” Silas said. “I think that’s why people encouraged me to go in that direction.”

The family moved to Ottawa when his mom took on the role of President at the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.Living in Ottawa, Silas learned to work a crowd during his time in a band called The Subterraneans. Not long after landing his job with the Bank of Canada, Silas started out at the local level, first as a shop steward with the union responsible for supporting workers with workplace issues and answering questions about collective agreements.Article content
