A medical jet carrying six Mexican nationals crashed into a residential neighborhood in Philadelphia, following a deadly mid-air collision between a passenger jet and a military helicopter in Washington earlier this week.
A medical jet carrying six Mexican nationals crashed into a residential area in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday, marking the second major US aviation disaster this week. The Learjet 55, en route from Northeast Philadelphia Airport to Branson, Missouri, appeared to descend at a sharp angle before impact, causing a massive fireball and scattering wreckage across homes and vehicles.
The Philadelphia City Council member Mike Driscoll expressed fears that residents or others on the ground may have been killed. The aircraft was transporting a young girl who had received medical care at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia, her mother, and members of the medical and flight crews. A spokesperson for Shriners Children’s confirmed the fatalities, stating that the patient was being returned to Mexico when the crash occurred. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) launched an investigation into the incident. This tragedy follows a collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter in Washington earlier this week, resulting in at least 41 fatalities. The NTSB is actively investigating both incidents, including examining the helicopter's black box and the cockpit voice and flight data recorders from the Bombardier jet. US President Donald Trump expressed his condolences on Truth Social, praising first responders and describing the event as a “sad” tragedy. Aviation expert Chesley Sullenberger, known for landing a damaged plane on the Hudson River in 2009, criticized Trump’s rhetoric, calling it “disgusted” but “not surprising.” Investigations continue to determine the exact cause of both incidents
