Local authorities have instituted strict guidelines on media coverage to protect vulnerable groups, especially children, in these centers.
Edna Lhou Masicampo, the public information officer for Canlaon City in Negros Oriental, reported that evacuees are being closely monitored and provided with essential support, including food, water and medical assistance. “Currently, the condition of our evacuees is stable. We continue to monitor and provide support to address their needs,” Masicampo stated in an online interview regarding the situation of evacuees in Canlaon City on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024. She also emphasized the need for additional resources such as food, hygiene kits, and mental health support for the evacuees.Masicampo appealed to local authorities and partner organizations for further assistance to address gaps in essential aid. “In the meantime, I ask for patience and cooperation from our evacuees as we work hard to address their needs,” she added.ResolutionDespite the stable conditions, a new resolution issued by the Negros Island Region Regional Task Force Kanlaon (RTF-Kanlaon) has limited media coverage in evacuation centers.
