It's about time. Your move, FB MCMC TechNave
As you should know, Telegram has finally agreed to work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the Royal Police Force to combat cybercrimes on its platform. We have been wondering when MCMC would also take action against Facebook and the announcement has been made.
MCMC just posted on its Facebook page that it will take action against Meta due to the high amount of fraud accounts, hidden scams and online gambling advertisements on the platform. MCMC said most of this online content has harmed the 3Rs and has already contacted Meta and requested to remove those harmful content.
It's not the first time that MCMC requested Meta to do something, as it has been a repeated request made from MCMC. Obviously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see many scams and fake pages on Facebook still existing. Since Meta has not met expectations, MCMC said it will take legal action against Meta in instilling accountability for cyber security in addition to empowering user protection against harmful content, including fraudulent activities.
It is unknown how Meta or Facebook would react to this. Perhaps this will take some time just like how Telegram refused to cooperate at first due to not wanting to be involved in"any form of political censorship". However, the rampant fake pages and scams on Facebook cannot be ignored and we hope something can be done about this.
