Commonwealth Bank-owned Bankwest is transitioning to a digital-only bank by the end of 2024.
McKinsey’s banking practice lead Eleanor Bensley is waving goodbye to a successful consulting career.Street Talk understands the partner is set to pop up at Bankwest at the end of September as its new chief digital officer. Sources said the announcement was made via an internal memo on Thursday afternoon.
Her new role at the Perth-based lender marks a return to old stomping ground for Bensley, who was plucked out of The University of Western Australia by McKinsey in the late 2000s. She’s also had stints in private equity with Mark Carnegie’s firm M.H. Carnegie & Co, and at Commonwealth Bank as CEO adviser and head of projects, retail sales and service.
Bensley was made a partner in McKinsey’s Asia banking practice in 2020, advising financial institutions across the region on retail and commercial banking, distribution and strategy. Her appointment comes after Commonwealth Bank-owned Bankwest announced in March it was closing all its branches nationwide and transitioning to a digital-only bank, focused on digital customers and home loans.has co-edited Street Talk since 2009, specialising in private equity, investment banking, M&A and equity capital markets stories.
