On Wednesday, Hughes sounded more hopeful that once the tournament starts focus will get back on the course. He also said that Monahan apparently did consider the fact that his news would once again threaten to overshadow Canada’s national open.
“That was discussed yesterday,” Hughes said. “From the sounds of it, it was something that Jay thought about and couldn’t avoid.” The big story of this golf season before Tuesday was the revamped PGA Tour model featuring numerous designated events with elevated purses played by limited fields without 36-hole cuts; or pretty much the antithesis of the Canadian Open, which is a non-designated, full-field, true national open with open qualifying, and a traditional 36-hole cut.
