The third-generation version of the brand’s best-selling nameplate “builds on its proven foundation with a more confident design, enhanced interior comfort, and greater everyday usability,” said the company in a release.

“Since Bermaz Auto Philippines took over the exclusive distributorship of Mazda in the Philippines, the CX-5 has been a core part of our lineup. Known for its distinctive design and responsive performance, it is the choice for drivers seeking a refined yet practical compact SUV,” declared Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan.

The model will initially come in a lone variant, the CX-5 2.5L AWD HEV Premium Plus, priced at P2.495 million, with a FWD version expected to arrive next year. The design ethos for the vehicle is “Wearable Gear,” with the intention of making it “fit naturally,” into various lifestyles — much like functional, stylish clothing. The qualities that the CX-5 wants to convey are “urban and refined, practical, and ready for active use,” while being flexible and approachable.

The CX-5 grows in dimensions versus the outgoing generation. It is longer , wider , and taller . Significantly, wheelbase measurement has grown by 115mm as well — directly translating to greater cabin space, specifically in its best-in-class second-row legroom. Here, rear-knee clearance swells by a huge 64mm and headroom by 29mm.

Meanwhile, the rear door opens a further 70mm compared to before. Combined with a wider scuff plate and lowered hip point, boarding and alighting from the vehicle will be easier, said Mazda. As for the cargo area, the CX-5’s load floor depth has been pushed down by about 45mm, accommodating bulky items such as large pieces of luggage, which can now be stowed in an upright position.

Providing grunt is a new 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv-G engine coupled with — for the first time — the brand’s hybrid system. This combination, according to Mazda, “delivers a more efficient and responsive engine, while retaining the mechanical purity and direct feedback that characterize Mazda’s human-centric driving experience.

” The engine puts forth 181ps and 242Nm, and Mazda said that work was done to achieve peak horsepower sooner ; torque delivery below 4,500 rpm has been improved “by up to 19%. ” The driver accesses the performance promises through a “recalibrated” six-speed automatic transmission — receiving a revised shift mapping and an updated hydraulic torque converter control.

Being a hybrid also helps realize a “quieter and more refined cabin,” especially when the engine restarts after a stop. A horizontal door-to-door dashboard layout serves to enhance the sense of space. A new integrated 15.6-inch infotainment screen is complemented by a redesigned center console, repositioned cupholders, and wireless charger. The touchscreen allows the reduction of physical controls.

Interiors get Japanese Sen Wood accents to imbue a sense of warmth and luxury, while “high-contact areas are finished in black to minimize visible wear and tear — an example of Mazda’s attention to detail and real-world use. ” Tan leather wraps the seats; with the front seats getting power adjustment. Memory presets are available for the driver, while ventilation is standard. The CX-5 comes with a three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a complimentary five-year service plan.

The model is available in six colors, including the new Navy Blue Mica . Other colors are Soul Red Crystal, Rhodium White, Machine Gray, Jet Black, and Aero Gray. —

DPWH seeks P102 million for Iloilo City flood control master plan in 2027 budgetDPWH seeks P102 million for Iloilo City flood control master plan in 2027 budgetThe Department of Public Works and Highways is proposing a P102 million allocation in the 2027 National Expenditure Program to develop a comprehensive flood control master plan for Iloilo City. The funding is earmarked for pre-investment studies, including the preparation of master plans and feasibility studies for flood control and drainage infrastructure. The proposal comes as the city continues to grapple with long-standing flooding concerns and a fragmented drainage network. The NEP does not specify which DPWH office would manage the funding if approved. The citys Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan 2022-2025 identified the lack of a comprehensive drainage master plan as a critical vulnerability, worsened by rapid and fragmented urbanization that has obstructed natural waterways and reduced permeable land areas.
