Mike Savage sounds as confident as ever the hockey show will go on as planned in Halifax and Moncton in December and January.
"It's hard to imagine a more significant change than the entire board stepping down and the CEO leaving. There are lots of questions yet to be answered about who will be leading Hockey Canada but that's as big a change as you can expect. From our point of view the world juniors should go ahead in Halifax and Moncton. We've got a great group of people here that know how to organize hockey tournaments.
"The leadership change at Hockey Canada is an important step toward accountability and meaningful change," Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston and his New Brunswick counterpart Blaine Higgs said in a joint statement."There are still investigations underway, and clearly there is more to be done, but we are pleased to see these changes and hope it signals they will address the ongoing issues within the organization.
"I think they know that Halifax can do these things and do them well. I have no doubt Halifax and Moncton will distinguish themselves and put on a great world junior tournament." Hockey Nova Scotia also threw support behind the overhaul at Hockey Canada, while also addressing the desperate rehabilitation the game's reputation needs at the grassroots level."This has been a very difficult and challenging time for those involved in hockey at every level of the game," read a statement from Hockey Nova Scotia."We know trust and confidence will need to be rebuilt by the national governing body as Canadians search for new voices to lead the sport.
